Registration for the Academic Year 2009-2010

All degree students are required to enroll at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts for each academic year in order to maintain their right to study.

The enrollment time for the academic year 2009-2010 is between 10.8. - 15.9.2009. In case you have enrolled only for the autumn term you have to enroll either present or non-present for the spring term by 15.1.2010.

The first year students, the first year specific master students as well as the N-year students enroll at the Study Affairs Office, Kaikukatu 4, 00530 Helsinki. All the other students enroll at the Info desk in the Kaikukatu lobby. The Postgraduate students fill the enrollment form, but for them the Student Union Fee is voluntary.

Change of Enrollment

A student who has registered as attending or non-attending for the whole ongoing academic year, can change her/his status for the spring term until 15.01.2010 without processing charge. The student who has registered as non-attending may also register as attending during the ongoing semester with a written request from the Head of the Department. This change of enrollment status costs 20 EUR.

If you want to study during the academic year or graduate from the academy you have to be enrolled as an attending student.

If the student wants to interrupt her/his studies the minimum time for interruption is 12 months and can not be cancelled. During this time the student is not allowed to receive any credits.

N-year students (students who have started their studies more than 6 years ago) have to make a personal study plan before they can enroll. Please contact the Study Affairs Officer preferably by the end of August to do your PSP (Personal Study Plan).

Agreement on the right of use of student course and thesis works

All students fill the contract Agreement on the right of use of student course and thesis works. The purpose of the agreement is to clarify the non-commercial use of the student´s praxis or graduation work completed in the Academy.

Passive Register

The Academy´s Study Register also includes the Passive Register. In case you have enrolled as an attending student during two years but have not completed any credits (credit points or weeks) you will be moved in to the Passive Register, which means that you cannot enroll as an attending student and cannot get a sticker in your student card. You will be able to get out from the register by making a detailed study plan together with the Head of the department and the Study Affairs Officer. The proceeding of studies and the right to enroll as an attending student (which means full time studies) will be checked every six months.

Before the student is moved to the Passive Register, she/he will receive a letter telling about this procedure. To avoid the move to the Passive register the student must make a study plan accepted by the Head of the department and the Study Affairs Officer.

The new Examination Decree

All students who start or continue their studies in the autumn term 2009 will complete their studies according to the new Decree, which came into force on the first of August 2005. The studies done before that are taken into consideration and included in the diploma completed according to the new university decree. Those students who have not transferred to the new degree system will be transferred in the autumn term 2009 and will complete their diploma according to the study requirements stated in the Study Prospectus 2009-2010.
