The Nordic countries - NORDPLUS/KUNO
The Finnish Academy of Fine Arts belongs to the NORDPLUS co-operation network KUNO, founded in 1993 among 11 Nordic art academies. Actually 16 Nordic and Baltic art academies are members of the network.
The NORDPLUS co-operation includes student and teacher exchange programmes and joint study projects. Exchange grants are available. The value of grants varies with time and location.
In addition to the long regular exchange periods, the network schools also organise short KUNO Express courses, for which students receive a travel subsidy. More information about the courses is available on the KUNO website at

How to find and apply to KUNO Express course:
1. Search among the courses on the homepage
www.kuno.no to find a course that you are interested in.
2. In
order to register for a course you should take contact with the co-ordinator at the school that gives the course. The registration is preferably done by e-mail. Use the link at the end of the course information. Please, write your name, address, phone, fax and which school you attend.
3. The co-ordinator will confirm if you may participate in the course that you have chosen. Usually there are two places available at each course. The first two students that register get a place at the course.
4. If you get a confirmation that you have a place at the course you should ask permission by your Professor to participate in that course. Should you not be permitted by your Professor to participate in the course, please, inform the co-ordinator at the school giving the course.
5. When you have a place at the course and the permission from your Professor, contact the co-ordinator at your school in order to fill in the form you need to obtain the Nordplus grant that you are entitled to (70 euros for accomodation + a travel grant 330 e to all Nordic countries, except Iceland 660e). Your Professor or the co-ordinator at your school should sign the form.
6. The co-ordinator at your school sends the completed form to the co-ordinator that disburses the Nordplus grant. The grant will be paid directly to your account.
Please, note that it's only registered students at one of the above mentioned Academies that can apply to the Kuno courses.
Under the heading "schools" you will find more information about the Academies that participate in this project. You will also find information about youth hostels where you can stay. You have to do all the travel and accommodation arrangements yourself.
Europe - ERASMUS/ Lifelong Learning Programme LLP
The Academy joined the ERASMUS programme of the European Union in spring 1994. The programme is based upon co-operation agreements established between universities. The period of the agreements varies from one year to several years.
Students entering the ERASMUS exchange programme are eligible for a grant, awarded through CIMO, which is worth c. 200 euros per a month.
Russia
FIRST (Finnish-Russian Student Exchange Programme) is a programme between Finland and Russia, co-ordinated in Finland by CIMO, the Centre for International Mobility. Modelled after the Socrates/Erasmus programme, FIRST is based on co-operation networks between universities. The ARTSMO network of Finnish and Russian art academies is currently co-ordinated by the Lahti University of Applied Sciences. The Russian academies in the network include St-Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy of Arts and Design, St-Petersburg State University of Technology and Design and Syktyvkar State University.
BILATERAL AGREEMENTS
The Academy has a bilateral student co-operation agreements with Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, USA, with the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem, Israel and with the Sank-Petersburgsky Gosudarstvenny Universitet (Russian Federation).

Independently acquired fixed-term studies abroad
Students wishing to study abroad outside of the exchange programmes must organise both admission and accommodation by themselves. They must also be prepared to pay for tuition. Just like students who study abroad within the exchange programmes, independently studying students must consult their own department in advance to settle the transfer of credits earned abroad.

Scholarships
Students at the Academy can apply for the Academy's own stipends which are granted for the development of international and domestic co-operation, for the production of teaching material, and for special projects. Scholarships are used especially to subsidise study trips abroad.
The Academy has also a studio in Berlin. Students can apply for a stay in the studio twice a year.
ELIA
The Academy has been a member of the European League of Institutes of the Arts (ELIA) since 1991. ELIA publishes a newsletter that contains information about interesting seminars and events organised by art academies abroad. Information about ELIA and the e-newsletter can be accessed at

HIAP
HIAP - Helsinki International Artist-in-residence Programme is one of the first and most important international residency centers in Finland. Each year between 10-15 visual artists, dancers, choreographers, curators and researchers from around the world are offered a working period of 2-3 months in the program.
The main purpose of HIAP is to foster cultural interaction between Finnish and international art professionals by providing an opportunity for creative work and research inHelsinki.
HIAP collaborates closely with the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts, Frame - Finnish Fund for Art Exchange, Artists' Association Muu, Kunsthalle Helsinki, Galleria Huuto and other cultural organizations in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area.
